Mac OS X Spotlight Search vs Windows Vista Search

by David Chin on June 25, 2008

After reading this page at ARSTechnica on the technical underpinnings of the Spotlight Search facility and FSEvents on Mac OXS X, I get an email notification on a post written by Amit on a fix for Windows Vista Search Indexer.

Mac OS X Spotlight Search vs Windows Vista Search Indexer

Coincidence?

It’s just too bad I don’t have a working copy of Windows Vista installed on my home PC computers (they’re still running on Windows XP Professional) as I would love doing a proper comparison of both search technologies.

All I can say for sure now is that Spotlight Search far outstrips the Search tool on Windows XP in terms of performance, utility and usability.

I would just like it if I could use spotlight on both platforms, so I could be at my desktop in Vista, and still search for stuff on either of my MBP, or my iMac, using their native search over network spotlight functionality. I hate windows search and how it indexes. If there was just a simple Spotlight compatible search tool that could run and search in vista, and access other OSX devices indexes as well.
